A SERIES of dance workshops have been given wheels thanks to funding from Mini Plant Oxford.

Street dance group Body Politic will hold three community workshops as part of the Family Dance Festival next week.

The group’s 20 dancers will hold beginners’ sessions costing a maximum of £10 in Blackbird Leys, Barton and Cowley’s Mini Plant.

Dance group founder Emma-Jane Greig said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be a part of this project with Mini. It’s such an incredible opportunity for Body Politic – the dancers are buzzing with excitement and can’t wait to start.

“The community workshops will be great fun and we’re hoping that people of all ages will come along and give it a go.

“It’s just about getting engaged in fun activities in their community, and getting younger people doing something positive during half term.”

The festival will run from Saturday to Sunday and is being put on by Oxford City Council as part of the Dancin’ Oxford project.

Dance officer Claire Thompson said: “It’s great to be working with Plant Oxford on this.

“We’re looking forward to getting the community involved with street dance and the workshops will be led by two pro dancers from Body Politic.’’ Frank Bachmann, managing director of Mini Plant Oxford: “Street dance is all about urban cool, just like Mini.

“The dancers from Body Politic have taken the plant as their inspiration for this piece. It’s great that they’ll be sharing their skills and dance style in the workshops and we’re hoping they prove popular with the local community.”
