AS A city of cyclists we welcome the news that Oxford could get a slice of £114m funding from the Government.
But as with all of these things, the devil is in the detail.
We’ve been here before with promises of pots of cash but they haven’t always come to fruition.
It’s healthy to be ambitious and believe that we deserve to have a healthy share of the fund. And when we find out how much we’re getting, there has to be a clear plan of how to spend it.
Not only does the public need to be as involved as possible but there should be visible results.
Next year we’ll see improvements to The Plain roundabout including making more space for cyclists.
Hopefully the latest round of cash will see similar results.
But the key will be co-ordination between the council and the Department for Transport. There seems to have been a slight lack of communication so far.
Let’s hope it’s as joined-up this time as the cycle paths will become.
