Primal Scream and Craig David will be among the acts entertaining music lovers on the second day of Oxford's Common People festival today.

Thousands of fans are expected to once again descend on South Park after 80's pop band Duran Duran took to the main stage last night.

Today also sees sets by Wheatley's Gaz Coombes, Ghostpoet, and Public Enemy.

Our reporter Naomi Herring was in South Park for yesterday's performances, and spoke to some of those music fans who went along.

Francesca McKay (above) , 31, from Ascot has come along with her friend Claire James from Swindon.

Ms McKay said: "It is the first time we have come to Common People.

"We tried for Glastonbury last year didn't get tickets so thought this was the next best thing.

"So far it had been really nice, friendly and everyone has been so lovely.

"We can't wait for Jamie Lawson."

The Oxford Brookes girls football team are on their last "shindig as a squad",

Charlotte Cavanagh said: "It is our last get together as Oxford Brookes football club today and after this festival I will probably cry.

"Today has been amazing and we are just all buzzing."

Dance group Soul Samba was on top form as two members danced with the music group Horns of Plenty.

The 30,000-capacity festival is organised by DJ and promoter Rob da Bank, who has a proven track record through staging the popular Bestival and Camp Bestival festivals.

He said: "This party is going to happen and people will have a good time.

"I love discovering new bands and seeing other people find out about them too. This is not just a party for the sake of it; it's educational."

The festival, which also features a local band stage, curated by Ronan Munro of Oxford music magazine Nightshift _ headlined by Balkan Wanderers tonight – and activities led by local community groups, is designed as a family-friendly event.

Rob said: "Common People is more sedate than most festivals, but certainly not boring. We can see people coming down and chilling out during the day, then it turning into more of a party later on.

"Now we've just got our fingers crossed for the weather."

Speaking to Oxford Mail earlier this week, Duran Duran drummer Roger Taylor revealed all about the band's 'come-back' headline slot last year at Bestival on the Isle of Wight - also organised by da Bank.

He said: “We were taken aback because we had never done this festival thing before.

“I was taken aback by how young the audience was and that they knew the songs and have been listening to the back catalogue.

“It was astonishing that in 2015 we could get up there and play to so many people. We were grinning all through the show!”

Festival go-ers have been warned to use public transport - including Park and Ride - to get to the venue because of road closures.

There will be a designated taxi area in Warneford Lane each night after the show has finished - but these will not be for collection by pre-booked taxis.
