An Abingdon care home is teaming up with a gardening group to deliver a community event.

Old Station House, together with Edible Abingdon, are inviting the public to an open day and open garden event on May 4 from 11am to 3pm.

The care home is marking eight years of co-operation with volunteers from Edible Abingdon.

Edible Abingdon is run by a small group of volunteers who for the past decade have been growing a variety of vegetables, herbs, soft fruit and pollinator friendly flowers at three sites across central Abingdon.

One of these sites is Old Station House, with the other two being on council-owned land.

Sharon Betts from Edible Abingdon said: "The open garden event is an opportunity for members of the public to visit the garden area and to see how it is possible to grow some food or herbs in containers.

"They will be able to see what is being currently planted, ask advice, or share ideas with our volunteers.”

Between 11am-1pm, volunteers from Edible Abingdon will be present to showcase the planters and answer any garden-related queries.

People at the event will enjoy a variety of homemade cakes, and will be able to meet home manager Sharon Tatum, activities co-ordinator Jeff Denton, and other members of the home's staff.

They will also be able to learn more about the residential and respite care services available at the home.
