CUMNOR head into Sunday’s Oxfordshire final of the Davidstow Village Cup with a point to prove, according to captain Matt Lake.

The Cherwell League side face last year’s beaten finalists Great & Little Tew in a repeat of 2014’s regional showpiece.

On that occasion, Home Counties Premier League outfit Tew won by nine wickets, before making it to Lord’s where they lost to Woodhouse Grange.

Before Sunday, Cumnor must first face Thame in the league tomorrow.

Lake said: “We have some real momentum going into the weekend, and are looking forward to two big games.

“We come into Sunday with a bit of a point to prove.”

Young Oxfordshire bowler Jamie Curtis comes in to the squad, while Joel Washbourn-Calcutt replaces John Williams (holiday).

Carl Thompson returns, Joe Dale replaces Tom Parsons and off spinner Andrew Russell is available.

Six of Tew’s first team, including seamer Andy Harris, are ineligible.

However, captain Lloyd Brock, Robbie Shurmer, Markus Jeacock, Joe Thomas, Harry Smith and Jordan Garrett, who all played at Lord’s, will feature.

Brock said: “It should be a fantastic game.

“Oxfordshire is one of the hardest groups to get out of and I expect the winners to go far in the competition.”

The match starts at 1pm, while the bar will be open throughout the afternoon and there will also be a BBQ.
