COACH Josh Lenthall says Alchester are fully focused on rebuilding the club and have set no targets for this season’s BB&O Premier campaign, writes JACK JOHNSON.

Alchester were relegated from Southern Counties North in May and begin life in the eighth tier of English rugby against Tadley on September 12.

Lenthall joined the coaching set-up at the beginning of July and begins life at a club that has big plans, despite dropping down a league.

This season Alchester intend to introduce a second string to play friendly matches, with a view to league rugby in the future, while they hope to use next month’s Rugby World Cup to their advantage in attracting new blood.

The 30-year-old, who was formally head coach at Gloucestershire side Fairford, said: “The club is looking to rebuild, there is no target in terms of league places.

“We are only able to field 18 players so the second XV would allow more players to play.

“We will look to sustain that in league rugby in the long term.”

He added: “The more players the better, it creates a buzz around the club."

“It is good timing with the World Cup."
