OXFORDSHIRE girls enjoyed mixed fortunes in two ECB Under 17 County Championship Group 2 matches.

A thrilling two-wicket win away to Warwickshire was followed by a 37-run home defeat at the hands of Shropshire.

Against Warwickshire, a fantastic bowling display restricted the hosts to 85 all out in the 35th over.

Naomi Hodkinson claimed superb figures of 4-2, with Charlie Noble ending with 2-2.

Oxon got off to a slow start and when Deanna Stamp fell they had reached 70-5.

They edged to 80-5, but then lost three quick wickets, including captain Ellie Noble, who top-scored with 21, and Georgia Brown when the scores were level.

However, they scrambled the one run needed to secure the win.

Against Shropshire, Hodkinson was at it again claiming 4-9 in just 3.1 overs as the hosts dismissed their rivals for 118.

Sophie Mitchelmore took 3-23, but extras pushed the total higher than it should have been.

Oxon looked in decent shape at 37-2, but then lost wickets at regular intervals before being bowled out for 81.

Oxfordshire Under 11s lost by 38 runs in their friendly at home to Buckinghamshire.

Extras dominated as Bucks made 129 all out in 25 overs.

But it proved too many for Oxon, who were dismissed for 91.

BURFORD completed a schools double – winning the county’s under 13 and 14 finals on consecutive days.

After a delayed start the under 13 final against Lord Williams (Thame) was reduced to 15 overs a side.

Burford started strongly, but then faltered to finish on 69-4.

However, a strong allround bowling performance restricted Lord Williams to 51-7.

Against Marlborough (Woodstock), Burford again disappointed with the bat scoring 75-8 in their 20 overs.

But their bowlers saved the day again, Greg Woods taking 3-4 as Marlborough were all out for just 19.

BARTHOLOMEW (Eynsham) completed an undefeated season in the Under 15 Premier League by beating Burford, who finished third.

Oxford Spires finished top in the second tier championship, with Chipping Norton runners up.

The under 12 pairs league final has been deferred to September when Icknield (Watlington) will take on Chipping Norton.
